Librarians are AWESOME! :)

I think librarians are an important component to a library. Most people look over their jobs but not many people realize how important they really are. They help with all of the office work that needs to be done, such as filing, faxing and printing. Librarians are known for helping with books. They are needed for help finding certain books or introducing new ones. When you walk into a library, the first thing you see is how neatly sorted the books, magazines, movies and audio cd's are.I always like to think that librarians are nice enough to continue to organize everything the library has to keep people coming back. Not only do librarians just work around the library, they help people learn. Librarians are always sharing important knowledge with others about current events, research or things they know about writing and reading.
I think it would be really cool if librarians had a teleportal mind that could pull books straight from the shelf and automatically know the whole book front to back. They would have their own library in their minds.
Since technology is expanding so much these days, I think libraries are going to have a limited amount of librarians because of internet access. It's sad that people no longer want to research manually, we are more likely to rely on computers to do all of our work and research. Maybe one hundred years from now, instead of having paper and hard back books, all books will be on e-readers.

  1. Hi Annissa!
Yes, Annissa, you are correct. Every library is full of librarians doing many different jobs but not all of them are clerical such as filing and faxing. Librarians are helping students find a great deal of information in many different places, not only in books. Today our information is stored on the Internet and so many devices are used to find this information, that librarians are kept busy keeping up with this new technology. If you get an E reader for Christmas, you might find yourself going to the library to find out how to work it. I believe because technology continues to change we will always need a librarian to help us figure out how to use the technology to obtain the information we need.
You are looking for the lazy man's way to obtain information. Wouldn't it be better for you to enjoy reading the book yourself, rather than have a librarian have the entire book in her mind? We do have a system that will bring the book from the shelves to the desk. It is called "request a hold" and although it doesn't teleport from the shelves to the hold shelf, it sometimes seems that way because the book you requested magically appears on the hold shelf waiting for you to come in and pick it up.
I hope you enjoy this class you are taking. It will make coming to the library so much more fun because you will know exactly how to find the information you need for other classes.
